Tattoo Aftercare Instructions
Keep it covered!
Your artist took his time to create your masterpiece and specially wrapped it for a good reason to keep any bacteria out of your fresh piece. As pretty as your new piece is, it is still an open wound and should be treated like one. A wound is a breeding ground for bacteria and infection and these can destroy your tattoo! Leave the covering your artist put on for at least two hours. Your can show it off to your friends later!
When you do remove the protective covering, you are going to need to clean it. Tattoo Addict Hygiene Wash with luke warm water will do the trick every time. It will wash off any blood, ointment and plasma that may be left behind. Wash it thoroughly but don't soak it with water. This will damage your artist's work! When clean, pat dry with a clean hand towel. Repeat this a couple of times a day especially if your tattoo feels slimy. Oozing plasma causes the slimy feeling, and if it dries, it will scab.
Keep it moist.
Your tattoo is clean, now it needs to be kept moisturized so that it can heal and not crack and scab. Tattoo Addict™s Natural bees wax after care has been specially formulated to do just this. It offers natural healing while being hypo- allergenic and at the same time creates a barrier to prevent any unwanted nasty's getting into your tattoo.
Apply Tattoo Addict after care three to four times a day to ensure your tattoo is well moisturized and so it heals with no scabbing at all. You will notice that it will peel slightly, just like after a suntan. This is perfectly normal and it is because of the generation of new skin and your body getting rid of the old skin.
Bathing, Showering and Swimming
Yes, you can (and should!) shower with a new tattoo. It's OK to get your tattoo wet just don't soak it. Soaking your tattoo in a bath can cause serious damage, so you'll want to avoid that for 2-3 weeks, but showering is perfectly fine as long as you don't soak your tattoo. If you get soap or shampoo on your tattoo, just remove it quickly with water. Swimming whether it is in a pool, fresh water or salt water, should be avoided for at least 2 weeks.
Scabbing and Peeling
After a couple of days your tattoo will start to peel a bit. This is perfectly normal. It may even scab a little. There is no need to panic! If it does scab, apply a warm moist and clean cloth to it for a few minutes a couple of times a day. They will soften up and eventually fall off. You will also start to itch a bit; this is completely normal as it is healing. Don't scratch or pick at it no matter what!
Once your tattoo has healed you are still going to need to take special care of it. The sun is not your friend as it is the biggest cause of fading and causing your tattoo to look dull. If you are going into the sun remember to wear protection! Tattoo Addict SPF30 Sunblock is ideal for protecting your work of art from the harsh Ultra Violet rays. Apply it liberally and as often as necessary, the more the merrier. This will help maintain vibrant colours and your tattoo will look amazing for years to come.
